For the benefit of the children as well as the parents and communities, regular concerts are integral to YONA. School halls, churches, retirement homes and even public open spaces are to be utilized.
By performing regularly, the orchestras are encourages to maintain a high standard, and it encourages the orchestra identity and feeling of ‘belonging’. It also helps parents to understand and appreciate the process. It is important that the concerts are always fun events.
By performing regularly in public, YONA becomes part of Namibian community life. The repertoire should have a classical foundation, but emphasis should also be on traditional Namibian music as well as works by local composers.
